Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust will take delivery of eight rods, reels and other fishing paraphernalia from Shakespeare Fishing, Willowburn Industrial Estate in Alnwick on Thursday, 20 November at 10am.
They will be used by the Newton Ward patients’ fishing group at St George’s Park in Morpeth.
Andy Severs, Clinical Team Leader at Newton Ward will received the generous donation on at the company’s Alnwick store from Dave McCartney who is UK Marketing Manager for Shakespeare Fishing.
Andy said: “We are delighted to receive this wonderful donation from Shakespeare which will make a real difference to the lives of our patients. The fishing group has already helped our service users with their recovery, build their confidence and self-esteem as well as supported their rehabilitation, so this fishing equipment will be appreciated now and in the future.”
Dave McCartney from Shakespeare Fishing said: “We at Shakespeare are passionate about grass roots angling and bringing new participants into our sport. When we heard of the fantastic work that the ward does, and combining this with fishing we wanted to support the initiative as much as possible. We hope that the equipment we have donated will help the ward for years to come.”
Fishing is a popular interest for service users at Newton Ward and some patients have the confidence to enjoy this relaxing past-time independently.
